Who can use Xavier University's (XU) libraries? Xavier's libraries serve, first and foremost, the University's current faculty, students, staff and researchers who hold valid XU IDs. Are the XU Libraries (XUL) open to the public? Outside researchers, including XU alumni/alumnae, members of the Academic Libraries Information Network (ALINET) and the American Studies Association (ASA), are accommodated only on Saturdays. For specific information click Policies for Outside Researchers. Who can use the online databases available through the XUL web site? The online databases are limited to current XU students, faculty, staff and researchers who hold XU IDs. However, the rest of the e-resources and research guides by subject listed on the web site are open to the public. How can I find out if XUL has a particular book, periodical, electronic resource, or audiovisual material? Service Hours Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Saturday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (12:00-12:30 noon - counters are closed for maintenance purposes) Changes in the library schedule are posted in advance The Xavier University Library System is composed of seven libraries and the Audio Visual Section. AGRICULTURE LIBRARY (4F Library Annex) Books found here are on crop science, animal science, agricultural economics, agribusiness, agricultural engineering, food technology, development journalism, and educational communication.
AMERICAN CORNER (2F Main LIbrary) The American Corner houses a special collection of print and multimedia materials as well as electronic resources for use in courses with American content and to those interested in American culture, institutions and society.
AUDIOVISUAL SECTION (1F Library Annex) More than 5,000 titles of multimedia materials and a variety of equipment are provided to support the academic needs of undergraduate and graduate students and faculty. Reservations for the use of the viewing rooms are made here.
BUSINESS MANAGEMENT & ACCOUNTANCY LIBRARY (2F Library Annex) Books found here include accountancy, management, information management, and management accounting.
CURRENT BOOKS COLLECTION (2F Library Annex) All books acquired within the last five years are displayed here. FILIPINIANA LIBRARY (3F Main Library) The Filipiniana Library houses books and journals materials about the Philippines and its peoples, plus collections of baby theses done by undergraduate students in the area of biology, chemistry, business management and engineering. It is also a depository of the National Statistics Information Center.
ENGINEERING LIBRARY (4F Library Annex) The Engineering Library houses books needed by students and faculty in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, electronics and communications engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, and computer science.
GENERAL COLLECTIONS (3F & 4F Library Annex) The 3rd floor houses books with Dewey numbers 000-599 (Computer Science, Religion, Philosophy, Psychology, Education, Economics, Folklore & Customs, Public Administration, Sociology, Languages, Sciences). The 4th floor houses books on the Arts, Literature, and History.
GRADUATE LIBRARY (2F Main Library) The Graduate Library supports the Graduate School. It holds more than 6,500 volumes and 800+ titles of theses and dissertations.
LAW LIBRARY (3F Main Library) The Law Library provides the special materials needed by the students and faculty of the College of Law. Its up-to-date collection includes a complete set of Philippine Reports, Supreme Court Reports Annotated, as well as copies of the Official Gazette, law and case digests, periodicals, plus the CD-ROMs Phil Juris and Lex Libris.
MEDICAL LIBRARY (4F Community Health Care Clinic) The Medical Library supports the College of Medicine and provides books and journals in the basic and clinical medical sciences, and public health. It maintains a Cyber Library that has internet connections, Online Medical Multimedia Catalogue (courtesy of XU-JPRCM), a number of CD-ROM databases and various interactive CDs. It is also a depository of the World Health Organization. RESERVE COLLECTION (2F Library Annex) The Reserve Collection houses all supplementary reading materials placed on reserve by faculty plus heavily used reading materials.
SERIALS LIBRARY (5F Library Annex) The Serials Library houses a collection of print journals on varied disciplines, DVDs and microfilms of national newspapers, microfiches of various titles including dissertations, and a number of government publications. The Serials Library also houses a Xavieriana collection and serves as a depository of the Food and Agriculture Organization.
POLICIES FOR OUTSIDE RESEARCHERS The Library serves, first and foremost, the students, faculty and staff of Xavier University, and outside researchers will be accommodated in the libraries based on the policies below. XU alumni/alumnae, XU reviewees are accommodated on weekdays, 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. No fees are charged. XU alumni/alumnae should secure an alumni ID at the Alumni Office, 1st floor, Student Center building. This ID is required for entrance to the libraries. Members of the American Studies Association (ASA) can also be accommodated during the same hours as above but only at the ASRC Library. A fee will be charged for use of other library resources or collections. ASA members should present their ASA ID (with photo) upon entrance to the library. Members from the Academic Libraries Information Network (ALINET) are accommodated only on Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. A fee, paid directly to the Finance Office, is charged for each visit. This fee allows access to all libraries. Researchers from ALINET member schools should first see their respective librarians to secure an ALINET permit.
